Joy in Your Practice

“The Beauty We Love: Meditations on the Modes”

May 31 - June 14, Wednesdays at 10am EST

This course is a shortcut to a colorful, meaningful home routine that activates new neural pathways, explores new sounds, and shines light on your personal music. Combining unusual scales with African-born rhythms offers a gateway to expression that can transform your daily practice into a joyful creative outlet.

Research proves that we learn better - and faster - in community.

Each week we’ll meet to explore different scales in a variety of keys, creating space for each player to discover for themselves the intersection of instrument and intuition.

Eugene Friesen’s improvisations and original music have been featured with the Grammy Award-winning Paul Winter Consort, and in concerts on six continents. Eugene’s students exemplify a new generation of creative and collaborative musicians steeped in music of the world.

“What you have presented is so flexible and deep; ways to think about problems, rather than just stuff to do."

Ben Wyatt/Blacksburg, Virginia

“We are a global world and your class really reflected that essence. I'm looking forward to breathing in this work and seeing you again in the near future."

Elizabeth Byrd, Cellist & Composer/Portland, Oregon

"The course is absolutely perfect. Everything is incredibly clear and progressive, making perfect sense to someone coming from within the classical “box."  Your presentation comes from a place of kindness and inclusivity, and provides a truly safe space to explore new ideas and techniques.  I am extremely grateful for all that this has offered me."

Alison Wells, Cellist/Lecturer, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Regardless of signup time or start day, all participants will have access to the complete session recordings via Zoom, as well as all included materials.
